COURSE OUTLINE – SELF PACED LEARNING
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of builders, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with clients. The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory.
Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and additional requirements to attainment of this qualification may be required.

The Qualification has core Unit of Competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry.
The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this Qualification requires all included Units of Competency to be delivered in this context.
Additional units of competency may be required to meet builder registration requirements in various States and Territories.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no Pre-requisite requirements, however Candidates should have a minimum 2-3 years current Construction Industry experience, working in a Supervisory Role. Candidates should be familiar with current construction procedures and terminology.
Students should note that this course requires you to conduct Workbased Tasks within an active Building and Construction environment, and will require tasks to be conducted on an active building site.

CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).
Successful Students may use this Qualification to support their application for a Builders Licence, or for working as a Building Supervisor.

What is the program duration?
Students will be required to complete 27 Units of Competency from the Qualification.
The Units are Clustered into relevant groups. It is expected that Students will be able to complete the required Units in 18 Months. If you have prior experience in some Units, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning, which may reduce the amount of time required.

Students can enrol into the Self-Paced course at any time
What is the delivery mode?
Self-Paced. Students can undertake work tasks and Study in their own time. You should allow a minimum of 15-20 hours per week Study time and completing Assessment Tasks. You will also be required to complete Workbased tasks for some Units. Students will require access to a suitable Construction workplace, and complete a Journal of their work activities.
How much time will I be in class each week?
Students completing the Self-Paced Course will not be required to attend Classes on a regular basis. Our Trainer / Assessor will be in regular contact with you throughout the Course to monitor your progression,
Students will be required to participate in regular tutorial sessions either by phone, or via Web-conference/ Skype / Teamviewer
How much extra study will I be required to undertake?
As required.
Do I need to provide any of my own resources?
You will need to provide or have access to certain resources to complete this Course.
You will need your own computer / laptop / tablet to carry out tasks in the course. As a minimum, you will be required to operate and produce Word Documents and Excel Spreadsheets.
You will be required to access information from various websites.
It is preferable that you have your own internet access, and a suitable email account, to send and receive Learner Resources, Assessment Tasks etc, and to participate in video conferencing with your Assessor.
You will need to gain access to National Construction Codes, Legislation, and Australian Standards etc
If you do not have regular internet or computer access, please advise ASFT prior to enrolment, and we can discuss possible alternatives
Where is the program offered?
The Course is available to eligible Students anywhere in Australia.
To be eligible for this Course, you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident, or holder of a Humanitarian or Student Visa.

How do we recognise your skills?
Prior to enrolment we will conduct a Pre-Assessment to determine your skills and experience.
If you have previous Qualifications, formal or informal Training, or can demonstrate current experience, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
What information do I need to provide?
You will need to provide ASFT with certain personal information when you enrol into this Course.
All personal information is dealt with in strict confidence, in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988, and its Amendments, and the Australian Privacy Principles, as amended.
We will need to collect information regarding your full name, address and contact details, and contact information for your next of kin. We will also need to collect information regarding your work history, including past and present employers.
What ID do I require?
Students are required to provide information to create or verify your Unique Student Identification code. (USI)
Students must provide at least 100 points of Identification, including:
- Drivers Licence* 80 points * must include your Current address.
- Medicare Card 30 points
- Birth Certificate 40 points
- Passport 50 points
- Visa 30 points
- Other current photo ID 10 points
How is the Course Structured?
This Course is Clustered into 7 groups.
Each Cluster is aligned to conduct similar or related Tasks and Activities, and the duration of each Cluster varies depending on the amount of hours required.
ASFT will work with you, and if applicable, your Employer, to compile a Training and Assessment Plan.
The Plan breaks down the Qualification into manageable components, and provides a helpful guide in determining the work tasks, and the amount of study time required to complete the Cluster and Course.
Students are enrolled into one Cluster at a time, and are provided with upfront Learning Resources and information, and the Assessment Tasks for that Cluster.
You can return your completed Assessments via email, or if you can’t access the internet, you can post them to us.
